Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda Sunday said that appropriate action would be taken in the case of a 23-year-old former flight attendant committing suicide in the capital and blaming Haryana Minister of State for Home Gopal Kanda for taking the extreme step.

“We will take appropriate action,” Hooda told reporters. Kanda was booked following the recovery of a suicide note. “Deepika Sharma was found dead at her Ashok Vihar residence Sunday. She had hung herself to death. We have recovered a suicide note which says Kanda had broken her trust,” a police officer said.

“We have sent a team to Kanda’s residence as part of our investigation,” the officer added. According to the victim’s brother, Gaurav Sharma, Kanda along with his colleague Aruna Chadha were mentally harassing his sister.

“My sister quit her job with MDLR airlines and decided to work with Emirates and had gone for training in Dubai but Kanda wrote to them accusing my sister of having a bad character which led to her termination,” he told reporters.
NCW to probe ex-flight attendant’s suicide

India’s apex women rights panel will investigate the case of a 23-year-old former flight attendant committing suicide here and blaming Haryana minister Gopal Kanda for taking the extreme step, Union Women and Child Welfare Minister Krishna Tirath Sunday said.

“We will send this case to National Commission for Women (NCW) for investigation I will write a letter to the chief minister of Haryana (Bhupinder Singh Hooda),” Tirath told reporters. Delhi Police has registered a case of abetment to suicide against the Haryana Minister of State for Home. Hooda had earlier in the day said that “appropriate action” would be taken in the case.

The victim-Geetika Sharma was found hanging in her Ashok Vihar house in north Delhi. According to the suicide note, she has blamed Kanda for breaking her trust, police said.

Kanda owned the now defunct airline MDLR where Sharma was working as a flight attendant. Following the airline ceased to function, Sharma was given a job in one of Kanda’s subsidiary company.

According to the victim’s brother, Gaurav Sharma, his sister was being constantly harassed by Kanda and his colleague Aruna Chadha, both mentally and psychologically.

She was being threatened by Kanda to join his company again, added Sharma.

The Delhi Police have registered a case of abetment of suicide against Kanda and have sent a team to Kanda’s residence as part of their investigation.
