All Adivasi Student Association of Assam (AASAA) 48-hour Karbi Anglong strike began Wednesday from 5 a.m. till July 6 (5 a.m.), in protest against government’s failure to secure 18 laborers including 9 Adivasi persons who were taken hostage by Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger (KPLT) outfit on June 10 from Lungnit hydro electric project.

The organization also has warned that, if the laborers were not released by July 6, it would call for an indefinite strike from July 9.

The strike which went off peacefully, saw AASAA on the streets in Adivasi dominated areas with bows and arrows.
Meanwhile, according government sources, police and administration “has reached a decisive stage in negotiating the release of the laborers”.

Sources said that they were expecting the safe release any moment. Another source disclosed that the private company, constructing the project has come to terms with the ultras “up to some extent”, paving way for safe release of the workers.
