Of the two passengers of a Guwahati bound special train carrying North East people fleeing Bangalore killed by unidentified persons at Belakoba railway station in West Bengal one of them turned out to be a student from Manipur.

Earlier on Sunday, news agencies reported that the two passengers of a Guwahati-bound special train carrying Northeast Indians fleeing Bangalore were killed and seven others injured after they were beaten up and pushed out by unidentified persons.

Additional secretary (home) of Manipur government M Yaiskul Meitei (IAS) who is currently in Guwahati to assist Manipuris fleeing from major cities of the country following mass exodus of Northeast people Monday confirmed one of the victim as a resident of Manipur’s Thoubal district.

“We have confirmed one of the killed youth to be a student from Lilong area of Thoubal district,” Yaiskul said when contacted, adding that the body will be brought to Imphal by air, possibly by tomorrow (Tuesday).

Maintaining that he was a student of Cotton College Guwahati, the additional secretary (home) asserted that enquiry has been conducted to ascertain how he was included among the passengers coming from Bangalore.

Meanwhile, after 32 people from the state (Manipur), mostly students and professionals who fled Bangalore and Pune have reached Imphal Sunday from Guwahati in the buses arranged by officials of Manipur Government, a total of 17 people, all hailing from Senapati district have left Guwahati today, Yaiskul informed.

Two officials of the state government, additional home secretary M Yaiskul (IAS) and Ranjan Yumnam, MCS were camping in Guwahati to assist fleeing state people to reach Imphal by opening a help desk at Guwahati Railway Station.

Apart from this, state government has also deputed two more officials at Pune and Bangalore to coordinate state people to take stock of the ground reality in the two major cities where thousands of state people were staying for study as well as job.

SP Chandel district E Priyokumar (MPS) was sent to Pune while DIG (Range-I) Clay Khongsai to Bangalore. They were reportedly collecting detail situation reports of the cities from Manipuris staying there.
