Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday mocked Congress Legislator Party (CLP)’s decision recommending Centre to declare United Naga Council (UNC) as unlawful organization.
After a CLP meeting on Saturday, chief minister O Ibobi Singh has written a letter to the Union home ministry to declare UNC, the Naga body imposing an indefinite economic blockade on the national highways, as unlawful organization.
BJP national leader and Union human resource minister Prakash Javadekar alleged that Ibobi led Congress government was fooling the people by taking such decision since it was not able to open the national highways. “Centre has provided more than 17000 Central security personnel for the purpose of re-opening the national highways. However, Ibobi government does not use them to open the highways,” he alleged.
The Union minister alleged that Ibobi did not use the Central security forces because he do not want to end the ongoing economic for his political gain. He also questioned the logic behind the decision when Congress government had not taken such a decision even as the “Naga body has been creating trouble in the state during the entire 15 years regime of Ibobi government.”
“Congress government is doing politics with the economic blockade when the elections are knocking at the door,” he said.
The Union minister was addressing a flag hoisting ceremony of BJP candidate in Imphal in which many leaders of the state unit of the party attended. He appealed the electors of the state to give a chance to BJP to bring a change in Manipur.
He also promised a bandh, blockade and strike free, corruption free Manipur under BJP regime.
State BJP leader and lone legislator of the party Th Bishworjit also mocked the CLP decision saying that the ruling Congress was fooling the people by taking the decision to ban UNC.
If the Congress government actually wanted to declare UNC as unlawful organization, it should have consulted with all the political parties operating in the state which would be followed by a cabinet decision before recommending the Centre. “CLP decision cannot be a government decision. Ibobi should have taken the decision before writing to the Centre. The letter said to have sent to the Union home ministry and PMO by Ibobi is invalid one,” he said.
Alleging that people of the state were suffering because of the UNC for the last 15 years, the BJP legislator lambasted Ibobi government for not taking any such decision against UNC while Congress led UPA government was in power at the Centre.
The Congress took the decision only to blame the BJP led NDA government at the Centre and to draw the people in its last effort to retain power. “It is nothing but to take political mileage,” he added.
The state BJP leader further said that it was the Congress that backed the NSCN (I-M) indulging in various unlawful activities in the state.
He reminded various instants where Ibobi government had released NSCN (I-M) cadres arrested by the security forces. “It is Ibobi government that is actually supporting NSCN (I-M),” he added.
