BJP’s Bhabananda files nomination papers

BJP state unit president K Bhabananda Monday filed his nomination papers for Rajya Sabha by-poll from Manipur.
The by-poll to Rajya Sabha seat on May 25 will see a straight contest between the BJP and Congress as only two candidates filed their nomination papers till the last hour of allowing filing nomination.
E Dwijamani of Congress had already filed his nomination papers earlier.
BJP’s Bhabananda filed his nomination papers for the by-poll today to the secretary of the Manipur Legislative Assembly secretariat Ramani Devi, who is the returning officer (RO) of the by-poll.
Chief minister N Biren Singh, who accompanied Bhabananda, was among the proposers of the BJP nominee.
In the 60-seat Manipur Assembly, the electorates for the lone Rajya  Sabha seat, BJP has 29 MLAs including eight sitting Congress legislators who recently defected to the BJP and lone AITC member who merged with the BJP while the Congress has 22 members.
NPP and NPF having four members each, one LJP and an independent are coalition partners of the BJP’s N Brien led government in the state.
Even though, they are the coalition partners, the parties were yet to  declare their support to the BJP nominee even though sources said that BJP’s Bhabananda will be the common candidate of the coalition government.
