Four Manipur commandos injured in IED blast

Four Manipur police commandos and Manipur Rifles jawan were injured in a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast triggered by suspected militants in Manipur’s Chandel district on Friday.
According to the reports, the explosion took place between Kwatha and Khudentabi area on Imphal-Moreh road at around 12-45 pm on Friday, when two vehicles of Manipur police commandos and Manipur Rifles jawan escorted Parliamentary Secretary (Home) of Manipur state government L Susindro Meitei who was returning from Kwatha.
After the blast, personnel of the Manipur Rifles escorting the parliamentary secretary opened fire several rounds of guns in retaliation.  The four injured personnel were sub-inspector Lalminthang Hmangte, rifleman Martin Star, rifleman Naorem Biswanath and rifleman Sharungban Gourahari. 
The injured personnel were shifted to Imphal by a chopper of Indian Army after administering first aids at a unit hospital of the Assam Rifles post nearby. The conditions of the first two personnel were stated to be critical. Following the explosion, police and army reinforcements have been rushed to the area and launched operation against the attackers. 
Meanwhile, state chief minister N Biren Singh has condemned the violent attack on the Manipur police commandos by suspected militants. He said that such attack was an act of cowardice and should be condemned by every section of the society. Singh also assured that appropriate action would be taken against those perpetrators who were behind the attack.
