Lone Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabananda Singh Wednesday adopted Takhel village in Imphal East to be developed as model village under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY).
The MP formally launched the development of the Takhel village into a model village in a simple function held at Takhel Chingtam Community Hall and unveiled the foundation stone.
Bhabananda highlighted the favourable rationale amidst the daunting challenges behind adopting Takhel village as a model village and committed to contribute his MPLAD funds for development of Takhel model village.
He sought cooperation from the people for the success of the scheme, and urged them to come forward with suggestions in preparing a draft plan for the model village.
The goal of SAGY was to translate the comprehensive and organic vision of Mahatma Gandhi into reality in the light of the present context, he added.
Under SAGY, MPs are to adopt three villages as model villages by 2019. The SAGY is intended to transform villages from rural to urban through a holistic approach covering eight sectors for development. The launching function was attended by MLA Ksh Biren of Lamlai A/C, Imphal East deputy commissioner Th Chitra Devi among others.
