Bishwajit inspects road improvement work in Ukhrul

Manipur works minister Th Bishwajit Singh Friday admitted that some road improvement works in Ukhrul district were sub-standard.
The work minister inspected the ongoing road improvement works in the district responding to complaints of poor quality in the road improvement works.
After the inspection, the works minister said “I am inspecting the ongoing road improvement works after I came across allegation of sub-standard work through social media. I am not satisfied with the quality of the work and slow progress.” 
While informing that the matter will be tabled in a meeting with the implementing agencies in the next two or three days, the minister said the agencies would also be asked to complete the works within February without compromising the quality.
Earlier, the minister inspected the improvement work on the stretch of Imphal-Ukhrul section of NH-150 which are being implementing by the Border Road Organization (BRO) and National Highway Infrastructure Development Cooperation Limited (NHIDCL).
The minister also inspected road repairing work in Ukhrul town and its adjoining areas.
Minister Biswajit asserted although the road repairing works is undertaken by National Highway Infrastructure Development Cooperation Limited and BRO, state government has the authority to intervene if their workings were not satisfied.
The concerned authorities would be strictly instructed to maintain proper quality in road repairing works, he added.
During his visit in the district, the work minister attended inaugural function of the VIII Tangkhul Naga Zingtun Longphang Sports cum Cultural Festival at Ngaimu village.
Speaking at the inauguration programme, the minister said that proposals have been submitted to the Centre to take up Tolloi Junction to Somdal, Ngaimu junction to Tuinem, Shiroi Ring Road, Awang Kasom Chingai Road, Nambisa Road and others under the Central Road Fund. 
He told the gathering that proposal to take up improvement work of Eastern and Western Circular Road in Ukhrul under the Road Infrastructure Development Fund has already been submitted to the Centre.
The work minister who is also in-charge of power department informed that against Central government’s target to provide electricity to all homes by March 2019, the state government will provide electricity to all homes by December 2018.
