A Chinese national, who was recently arrested on suspicions of spying by Assam Rifles Jawans near Moreh, has been handed over to Manipur police on Thursday.
Even though he was arrested on suspicions of spying, Moreh police of Tengnoupal district, where he was handed over today, took custody of him under the Foreigner Act.
The person, later identified as Qin Min Xiv Xiang (55), hails from Fuzian province of China, was apprehended by troops of 11 Assam Rifles on December 22, 2017.
A quick reaction team of the Assam Rifles was dispatched in response to inputs on the movement of a suspected Chinese agent attempting to infiltrate into India from Myanmar. Qin was subsequently apprehended from a place near T Minao village, a Manipuri village at the international border.  Various Chinese, Vietnamese and Myanmarese documents, foreign currencies, a pen drive and a compass were found in his possession.
Moreh police has registered a case -FIR no. 4(1) 2018 under section 14 Foreigner Act.  In the FIR, he was reportedly accused of attempting to infiltrate into Indian territory without valid immigration documents.  The documents and other recovered materials were also handed over to Moreh PS for further action, the source added. The allegations of spying can only be confirmed after investigations, a police officer said.
