An exciting encounter between Dimapur United and Kohima Komets turned out ugly after players of Komets charged the referee, when the referee awarded a penalty in favour of Dimapur United at the ongoing NPL played at DDSC Stadium, Dimapur.
The penalty was awarded after a defender of Komets handed the ball inside the danger area.
It was only after the intervention by the NPL officials, Kohima Komets handed Dimapur United the walk over. As per NPL bye-laws, Dimapur United were awarded three points and three goals.
The ugly incident took place in the 29th minute, when Dimapur United was leading 1-0.
Goalkeeper Alemse Sangtam and defender Dezesengulie Krose of Kohima Komets objected the decision and charged the referee. While objecting the penalty, Alemse used his hands to pushed the referee, leaving the referee to award red cards to both the players.
After which, the match was stopped for around 20 minutes. Later Komets players walk out of the field and awarded a walk over to Dimapur United.
The match was also reduced to 40-40 minutes, after the delayed start of the first match. As usual the first match between Naga Tornadoes and Dynamic FC scheduled for 1 pm started one and half hour delayed.
This is the third of such incidents occurred at the ongoing NPL matches. All the three incidents including today took place at Dimapur. The first was between Dimapur United and Barak Flamingoz where players were involved in the brawl; the second was between Naga Tornadoes and Life Sports, and the match had to be stopped for around 30 minutes when players of Tornadoes objected to referee decision.
Earlier, Dimapur United took an early lead through Amir’s strike in the 7th minute.
Both teams known for their attacking tactics started cautiously but it was Dimapur United who took the advantage in the early minutes.
Trailing by one goal to nil, Komets did not allow Dimapur United to settle down and with its main energetic striker Emmanuel testing the rival defense line up on regular intervals. When the match seemed to be heading for another thrilling finish, the defender of Komets handed the ball inside the danger area allowing the referee to award a penalty to Dimapur United after which the ugly incident took place.
Dimapur referee association condemn
Dimapur football referee association has condemned the “attacked” on one its members by a player from Kohima Komets. The association said at times when the association was sacrificing its time and energy in trying to promote NPL, such incident would bring bad reputation to the football lovers in the state. It appealed to all the players and teams not to repeat such kind to incidents in the future.
“As a human being there might be short coming and we have to encourage one another”, the association added.
Abel scores hat-trick
Inspired by Abel’s hat-trick, league leaders Naga Tornadoes humiliated Dynamic FC 7-0 in a thrilling one sided match, at the ongoing NPL played at DDSC Stadium, Dimpaur Friday.
Abel not only scored a hat-trick but was also instrumental for the team’s fifth and sixth goals.
Two goals were scored by Akum and one each by Victor and substitute Anato.
The match also witnessed rival Dynamic FC strikers and mid-fielders struggling hard to find form.
As in many of the matches played so far, Dynamic FC put lots of pressure on its own helpless “striking machine” Mathew and left hand play-maker Theja. The two were left with no choice but to struggle to edge forward with little impact.
However, the match looked as if there would be goal scoring spree by the Tornadoes. As expected, Abel scored the hat-trick in the 17th, 24th and 31st minutes. His first and second goals were assisted by Akum.
Abel and Akum with their superb combination kept the rival defenders busy throughout the entire proceedings.
Tornadoes led 3-0 till the first session. Dynamic’s Mathew efforts to resort to quick counter strike did not bear fruit. He missed a splendid chance as the agile Tornadoes goalkeeper Ato thwarted Mathew’s weak volley.
Coming back after the break, it was again Tornadoes who enjoyed the ball possession with Akum scoring two goals (4th and 5th) in the 55th and 64th minutes.
Anato who replaced Bambie in the second session scored the 6th goal in the 68th minute.
Akum narrowly scored a hat-trick in the 71st minute, but his powerful volley an assist from “brilliant mid-kid” Victor was kept out for corner kick by the rival custodian.
Despite his small frame, he was there all over the field making best efforts so that his teammates surged ahead with goals as harvest.
He was finally rewarded, in the 74th minute when he collected a superb assist from Akum to complete the scoring for Tornadoes.
