Inclement weather condition in Kohima has been playing spoilsports to the ongoing 8th Silver Cup T20 Cricket Tournament organised by Nepali Baptist Church Kohima Youth Department at Jakhama Ground.
Due to the continuous down pour and completely soaked ground condition, only the last pre-quarter final match could be played on Monday, wherein Royal Tourniquets defeated runners-up of last year’s edition Kohima Hornbills ‘B’ by 56 runs.
After due consultation with the team captains, the technical committee of the organisers reduced the match to 12 overs.
Favoured in toss, Kohima Hornbills ‘B’ decided to field but were unable to restrict the opponents and gave out 103 runs claiming 2 wickets.
Royal Tourniquets batsman Nripen Rai remained not out at 42 runs while S S Alam contributed 39 runs. Kohima Hornbills ‘B’ bowlers Dito and Anna claimed one wicket each.
Chasing the target, last year’s runners-up Kohima Hornbills ‘B’ were knocked at 47 runs in 11.2 overs with Anga contributed highest 26 runs.
Royal Tourniquets bowlers Longsasunep took 4 wickets while Moni and Merenti downed 2 wickets each.
Nripen Rai was adjudged the man of the match for scoring 42 Runs in 31 balls.
Meanwhile, ending the pre-quarter final round, the organisers declared the highest wicket taker and awarded Green Cap to Longsasunep for taking 7 wickets and S S Alam with Red Cap for being the highest run getter for scoring 67 runs. Both of them are from Royal Tourniquets.
The quarter final matches earlier fixed for Monday has been postponed for March 21.
