Open, veteran badminton c’ship underway

The three-day All Nagaland men’s doubles open and veteran badminton championship got underway at indoor badminton stadium, Officers’ Hill Kohima on Thursday. The tournament is being organised by Crescent Club, Kohima under the theme “step us the challenge.”
The championship is being held in four categories; open, 30+, 40+ and 50+. The champion of open category will receive a cash prize of Rs. 40,000 while the runner-up will pocket Rs. 20,000. The winners and the runner-ups in other categories will receive Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively.
Altogether 52 teams from all over the state are participating in the championship.
The president of Crescent Club, M. Tungoe said that the tournament is being organised to promote badminton in Nagaland by providing a platform.
Earlier, the game kicked with an invocation prayer by pastor Faith Harvest church Kohima, Shan Kikon.
