Summer basketball camp underway in Kohima

First summer basketball coaching camp organized by the Suncity Kohima and Professional Basket and Football (PB&F) sports management is currently underway at Christ King Higher Secondary School Kohima. 
The camp which began on July 4 will conclude on July 15. Altogether 63 boys and girls under four categories Under- 14, 16, 18 and seniors are attending the camp.
During the interaction with the media persons, chief welfare inspector /sports southern railway, former Indian women basketball player representing India and trainer of the coaching camp Prasanna Jayasankar, who is in the state for the second time for basketball coaching, said Nagaland has lots of potential basket ball players. 
However, to promote them, she said government should give importance and also spend time and money. According to her, sports and athletic was the best way to change one’s character and behaviour.             
Jayasankar, who also captained the senior Indian women team in the 13th Asian basketball confederation championship at Singapore in 1990, said to become a professional player and excel, the players needed to be trained from the age of eight.  She further said that most of the states in the country were providing special job quota for sportspersons upto 15-20%, but in North East states and Nagaland there was less privileges and encouragement for the sportspersons.
She said that of the 63 total students, around 40 of them were talented and can do much better if guided and trained them properly.  30 students will be selected for further coaching at Chennai during winter vacation, she added. 
Technical director Nagaland basketball association and former national basketball player Zhatuo Rutsa said through this coaching, it want to spread the important message of sports and basketball and provide opportunity to the upcoming kids to learn basic fundamental of the sport through coaching. FIBA coach, manager North East PB&F and former national basket ball player SJ Coronet was also present during the interaction.
