Apropos the news item-- “People free to visit Myanmar: Govt.” published in the Guwahati edition of Asian Age on September 30, 2015, Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) has issued a clarification on the contents stating their president was “misquoted” and the report “misinterpreted”. In a press note, the media cell said that the ENPO president had only “expressed his views on the banning of the NSCN (K) and the possible subsequent difficulties and constraints that might be posed”. ENPO said that the president “did not mention about the rejection of the visit by the government nor about bringing the outfit to the negotiating table.” While acknowledging the statement and policy interest on security matters of the government, the media cell said ENPO as a matured and responsible organization was aware of the norms/guidelines for movement and travels within and outside the country inclusive of trans-border movement. ENPO said they were in touch with both the Centre and state governments including the concerned ministry in regard to the proposed visit to Myanmar to meet NSCN (K) representatives on behalf of the general public. ENPO said they also acknowledge the state government’s appeal to review the unilateral abrogation of cease-fire by NSCN (K) in the interest of peace.
