“Kohima being the capital city, everyone is an equal partner,” state urban development minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu Sunday said and reminded that as per the 2001 census, though Kohima village was the actual land owner, less than 2% of the populations from the Kohima village inhabited Kohima town area.
Dr. Shürhozelie said this at a get-together cum picnic of Kohima town colony youths organized by Angami Youth Organization (AYO) at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama Saturday that earned much applause from different leaders and organizations.
Dr. Shürhozelie while appreciating the wisdom of the organizers termed the occasion as a milestone.
Further, he reminded that Kohima being the capital city, where every tribe, caste and community lived together; there should be a sense of oneness.
Stressing on the vital role the youth played in the society, he said society wanted all the youths to come together to plan for the city.
The get-together was organized with a view to share ideas and opinions and make the state capital Kohima a peaceful, better and cleaner city to live in. Almost all the representatives of the different colonies attended the programme.
All the three legislators representing different parts of the state capital including NLA Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie, Dr. Shürhozelie and MLA and Chairman NKVIB Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire graced the occasion and lauded the AYO for taking up initiatives in organizing such programme.
Addressing the event, Kiyaneilie acknowledged the contributions made by youths and termed the occasion as the “first ever”, and said such gathering should be organized even in future.
Dr. Nicky stressed the need for change in the mindset of the people and cited an example, saying “we tend to go and watch any calamities or fight but have no mind to help others.”
Stating that when there was fire incident, or a fight between two persons, people only wanted to watch instead of helping, he stressed the need to catch up with the changing of time.
He further exhorted on the need for having civic sense, saying that “we create more traffic congestion by attending calls while driving and by not following the signs on the roadsides.”
On morality, he said the number of Churches will not matter if one’s heart was not clean and that one would not walk out a better person after attending Church service if the heart was not clean.
While lauding the AYO for the get-together, he wished that more such programmes would take place in the future to share view and ideas amongst the youths.
“We should be able to say enough is enough and should make Kohima a more safer, cleaner and better place to live in,” he added.
AYO president Khrielievi Chusi, in his presidential address, said youths from different localities were gathered not only to celebrate their achievements but to come closer with one another to build better coordination with their leaders, administration, law enforcing agency and AYO so as to bring change in the society.
The occasion was marked by tug of war competition between the youths of different colonies whereby, Kitsubozou youth won the competition and walk home richer by Rs.10,000 while PR Hill youth bagged the second position and Lerie and Naga Bazar youth were adjudged the joint winner of third place.
