Eye centre for retinal surgeries in Dimapur

Realizing the importance of special eye clinic in Nagaland especially residents Dimapur, a new tertiary level eye centre ‘Mercy Eye Centre’ was inaugurated opposite town hall, bank colony, Dimapur on Tuesday.
The newly launched eye centre is initiated by husband wife duo Dr. Chingkup Konyak; Vitreo - Retinal Consultant & Surgeon (MBBS, MD, FVRS) and Dr. Sharon Rungsung; IOL Consultant & Cataract Surgeon (MBBS, MD).
‘Mercy Eye Centre’ aims to provide city standard eye treatment with its own OT room and cater to 15 patients in a day.
The eye centre has a hi-tech sophisticated machine called the ‘constellation machine’ for conducting retinal surgery. The machine is said to be the ‘best machine’ in the world and the centre is believed to be the first in north east to have installed this equipment.
The husband and wife duo received their skills from one of the finest eye institutes in the world from Central America and America.
It may be mentioned that Dr. Chingkup was an Assistant professor at the MMI institute in Dominican Republic for few months.
Talking to this reporter, Dr. Chingkup said this tertiary level eye centre would cater to retinal surgeries as well as laser surgeries for diabetic retinal, any pathology in the retina, glaucoma surgery, oculo plastic, squint surgery, Yag laser (used basically after cataract surgery if condition like posterior capsule opacisication arises) etc.
As members of Medical Ministry International (MMI), both the husband and wife plan to setup an International centre for Octomology in Chumukedima by 2013, a tertiary eye care funded by the MMI, where they also plan to run a post graduate degree in octomology and impart training for ophthalmic techinicians.
According to Dr. Chingkup, the first retinal surgery would be performed on Dr. Nokdang’s (orthopedic) mother who has been suffering form old hemorrhage in the retina and cataract on Wednesday.
Earlier, the dedication programe was chaired by Director of MMI Nagaland, Rev. Dr. Pongsing Konyak.
