Two students were reported to have been "severely beaten" by underground cadres for allegedly stealing money from a residence at Industrial village, Dimapur.
According to Dimapur Kyong Students Union (DKSU), president, Chenithung Kithan, the two students who were badly beaten and bore “bruise marks on their bodies" were released the next day.
When contacted DKSU, president said that the two boys studying in class XI and class VI at two different schools in Dimapur were accused of stealing Rs. 4 lakh from the residence of one Imtiwati Ao at Industrial village Razuphe on July 6.
The two who were also neighbors of Imtiwati were accused of stealing after a “testimony” provided by Imtiwati's domestic help who according to DKSU was a minor boy.
DKSU president said that instead of handing over the boys to the colony council, they were handed over to an underground group.
Investigating the case, DKSU president said that it was found out from the school authorities of the two that one of them attended class on July 6.
The other student was on summer school break but was reported to be “good and regular” in his studies. The money was reportedly stolen at around 10.30 to 11.30 a.m. on July 6.
DSKU said that the wife of Imtiwati approached one of the boys' mother and told her “that it was not the fault of the son, but the fault of the domestic help”.
Condemning the physical assault and mental trauma meted out to the two boys, DKSU demanded an explanation on the matter and appealed to the responsible authorities to book the culprit(s) involved at the earliest so as to deliver justice to those students (victims) whose names have been implicated in the issue.
