Tsungremmong festival, one of the agents of spreading goodwill: Chief secretary

Nagaland has been witnessing increased inflow of foreign tourists in the state with the promotion of rural and cultural tourism by the state government with community participation. In 2010 and 2011 over three thousand foreign tourists visited Nagaland.
Longsa village in Mokokchung district, one of the tourist destination villages in the state, celebrated Tsungremmong festival as a permanent feature of rural tourism promotion with traditional fervour August 2 with state chief secretary Lalthara as chief guest, DIPR reports.
Addressing the festival, Lalthara said celebration of time-honoured festivals in Nagaland without giving any conflict with Christian principles deserved appreciation.
He said Tsungremmong festival celebrated by Ao community was one of the agents of spreading goodwill among different tribes.
Lalthara also said the system of governance in the village through Putu Menden was very unique and opined that it was best system of administration and called upon the people to preserve this traditional system.
He also commended that Nagas were known not by where he or she was born or live but he or she was identified by the village.
Appreciating the village administrative system, chief secretary said communitization was conceived based effective village administration, which should be further improved.
With strong village administration system law and order, problems were less in the state, he said. State DGP O. Alem, who was the guest of honor, also addressed the festival with message to cement harmony in the society.
Cultural troupes from Sangtam, Sumi tribes and the host village presented dances and songs. Additional chief secretaries, Alemtemshi and Banuo Z. Jamir and host senior officers from Kohima and Mokokchung attended the festival.
