Irked by the department’s “apathy” in restoring power supply due to a damaged transformer located near Corner Stone Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, residents of Duncan Basti Monday night gathered near the transformer to show their resentment on the department’s inability to restore power supply in the area.

Residents claimed that the department sent its personnel more than “five times” to repair the damaged transformer, believed to be one of the oldest in Dimapur, but the problem still persisted.

Residents also disclosed that they would block the main road leading to DC’s office as sign of protest against the power department for failing to replace the age old transformer as most of the wires were worn out.

Further, they claimed that the transformer may have been damaged due to “over loading” as the said transformer also supplies power to colonies located along Nagaland-Assam border.

Residents have also said that they would be meeting the department officials on Tuesday at Burma Camp.
Meanwhile, staff of power department, who was also at the site repairing the transformer, said that the junior engineer has assured to look into the grievances of the colony’s residence at the earliest.  

Earlier, on Sunday night, youth of Duncan Basti barged into Industrial Estate power sub-station as the staff of power department showed lukewarm response to the demands made by the colony to repair the damaged transformer.
