Chief manager SBI Dimapur had informed pensioners under Dimapur district that it was mandatory for pensioners to submit PAN card number to the pension paying branch latest by August 15.

Chief manager said in terms of section 26AA inserted with effect from April 1, 2010 in the income tax Act 1961, furnishing of Pan by the employee/pensioner is compulsory in case of payments liable to TDS, adding that if the employee/pensioner (deductee) fail to furnish his/her pan to the deductor, the deduction shall make TDS at a higher rate i.e. the rate specified in the relevant provisions of the act or at the rate or rates in force or at the rate of 20%.
He also directed pensioners to submit pan card to avoid hardships to the pensioners.
