Concerned over the increasing number of vehicles and regular traffic congestion which has been creating inconvenience to the public, state BJP party on Saturday urged the government and the department in-charge to review the anomalies and take proper correctives steps immediately.
BJP spokesman and general secretary, James Vizo said unless the government and the department take corrective steps it would be too late and the people would be compelled to start walking. Vizo alleged that it was due to improper planning of the city that has resulted with no alternative routes and by-pass roads within the city limits.
Pointing out that the proposed four lane has resulted in a “mere dream” , the BJP questioned whether it was the incapability and inefficiency of the district administration or whether it proved the incompetence of the present DAN-2 Government in dealing with such matter.
BJP also stated that the law enforcers passing orders was only a “mockery” as it never gets implemented.
Citing the examples of High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) and the deadlines and now banning of dark sun films on vehicles within two weeks, the BJP said that time will only reveal whether it will work out effectively and for how long.
However, the BJP party in the general interest of all section of people of Dimapur has urged upon the departments and the government of Nagaland to seriously review these matters and take proper remedial measures before things goes beyond control.
Meanwhile, to ease the traffic problem, the BJP has suggested few points for serious thoughts and immediate attentions - The culvert situated at Nagarjan Police point towards East Police station and the culvert situated at between Holy Cross School towards City Tower needs to be widened, as motor vehicles gets jammed at this two points; the road divider ending at Ducan Bosti junction must be extended till DC junction and further till Dilia gate.
So also the road divider which ends at Tragopan junction must be extended till Nagaland check gate/Amar mill; in order create alternative routes, restoration of old NH-National Highway i.e. Old Khatkhati to Purna Bazar via Zion Hospital road must be carried out; it is very important to have inner and outer ring road, therefore, construct new ring roads for eg Dimapur town via Niu-land to Chumukedima via Diezephe, Thahekhu to Dimapur town; in order to ease traffic flow within the city, construct another new flyover bridge somewhere in between Nagarjan and Thahekhu area crossing the railway lines; the Dimapur traffic department should be equipped with pick-up van or recovery truck/crane to remove all illegally parked vehicles at no-parking zones and improperly parked that disrupt the flow of traffic.
And only after imposing appropriate penalties, defaulter should be released; except for domestic carriage no outstation heavy vehicle should be permitted to ply on the present NH-29 and within the city limits.
An alternative route for outstation vehicles is urgently needed to reduce the traffic jam problem at Dimapur; there must a separate lane demarcated for autos, three-wheelers’ plying between Chumukedima and Dimapur by widening the road to 10 feet; separate market shed for meat sellers is a must and immediately shut down all the meat stalls along side of the NH-29.
