CM: Nagaland chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu has expressed grief over the sad demise of Oditenba Phom, ex MLA Monday afternoon at Longleng.
In a condolence message to Mrs. C. Akokla Odi, Dr. Liezietsu described Late Oditenba as a straight-forward elderly man who never failed to express his honest and unbiased opinions on issues facing the State and his people.
Dr. Liezietsu said he was one of those pioneer Naga politicians who became members of the Assembly, swearing their allegiance to the Constitution of India when the movement for self-determination of the Nagas was at its height, and threats and intimidations to elected representatives were regularly issued to elected members.
He said it would be difficult for the present Naga generations to imagine the hardship Naga leaders went through in the 1960s. But it must be understood by all that these leaders made tremendous sacrifices to take up the cause of the Naga people with the Government of India, he added.
“We have come thus far because of the efforts of our past leaders who gave their best to take the Naga people forward in the national mainstream of the nation, like Oditenba,’ he said.
He said the passing away of Oditenba, not only the Phom people, but the Nagas have lost a leader who wanted people to see a better tomorrow.
