9th NAP Bn (IR) receives medals

Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak medals by government of India was awarded to officers and ranks of 9th NAP Bn (Indian Reserve) who had been deployed in Chhattisgarh from 2005 to 2007 for their exemplary duty in combating Maoists in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. A total of 999 medals have been awarded to the unit.  
A press note by commandant of 9th NAP Bn (IR), C. James Kinghen stated that the medal was awarded to police personnel deployed in counter insurgency in specified areas for two years. 
He stated that 9th NAP Bn (IR), also known as “daring ninth” during their stint in Chhattisgarh had displayed exemplary courage and bravery, although the unit lost 20 of its heroic soldiers while combating the naxals. 
James stated that the medals would be personally handed over to the officers/personnel who have been transferred to other units. Medals of the brave dead would be handed over to family members, he informed.
