For the first time in Dimapur, Artists’ Corner has been organised by the Department of Art and Culture in association with NEU Naga Art Foundation at Dimapur hotel Saramati premises which so far has found no takers sadly.

According to the visitors dairy so far only six visitors have visited the venue which has greatly discouraged the artists participating in the exhibition.

The event is also a part of the hornbill festival and has been scheduled from December 1 till December 10.

Though the event features art exhibition cum sale, demonstration of painting and sculpture, painting competition, talk and interactive sessions etc, there has been very less participation from the public probably because people are unaware of the event there. Talking Nagaland Post, some of the artists present at the venue expressed dismay saying that there have been hardly any visitors coming to visit the exhibition and that they could not carry out their demonstration eventhough they were fully prepared for it. The artists speculated that there may seem to be not much art lovers in Nagaland.

“As an artist it is heartening but at the same time we are hopeful that next year it will be better since it is the first time this year,” one artist said.

Talking about Art, artists said art should be eye appealing and not simply about the income as they use their creativity to highlight various themes and subjects. Artists representing Kohima said that the event was not well publicised or organized and that the demonstration event was held from December 1 to 4, but with no visitors they could not demonstrate.

One of the organizing members of New Art Foundation mentioned that there are 23 participants at Dimapur Artists’ Corner which comprises of amateur, professional and students of sculptor, painting and artist. The event starts from 10 a.m. and goes on till 5 p.m. An art competition will be held on December 6, for people in the age group of 15 to 25 years.

Launched on December 3,1990. Nagaland Post is the first and highest circulated newspaper of Nagaland state. Nagaland Post is also the first newspaper in Nagaland to be published in multi-colour.
