Monsang SU, Tribal Brothers enter OFs

Monsang Students’ Union FC and Tribal Brothers reached the quarterfinals of the 19th NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy played at Kohima local ground on Wednesday.

In a thrilling encounter, Monsang Students’ Union FC beat Rising Star (Mizoram) 5-4 via tie-break after the match ended in goalless draw. 

Both the teams displayed equal strength and enjoyed equal ball possession.  

Alower (19), Ngamneirü (7) of Monsang Students’ Union and Lun (3) of Rising Star (Mizoram) were yellow carded for foul play. In the other match, Tribal Brothers came from a goal down to beat Tiema-Khe Kidima 3-1. 

Tribal Brothers were 1-0 down after goal from Kevisekho Thokwhe (17) gave Tiema-Khe Kidima the lead in the 6th minute. The score line remained unchanged for the next hour. 

However, three goals in space of nine minutes stunned the Tiema-Khe Kidima boys. 

Laiwang (11) found the equaliser for Tribal Brothers in the 61st minute. Three minutes later, Laiwang netted again with an assist from Sinlo. The third goal was scored by Shurhosül (9) in the 69th minute.  

Eshong (21) of Tribal Brothers and Viketozo Thokhwe (9) of Tiema-Khe Kidima received yellow cards. 

Tribal Brothers will now take on Monsang Students’ Union FC in the Quarterfinal on October 15 at 2pm. The tournament is organized by Angami Students’ Union (ASU) from September 20 to October 21.
