Defending champions Stallions, St. Joseph College, Amplified, TMB, Taurus, Elite Basketball team and Team Orca entered the quarterfinals of the 11th Open Basketball Tournament (OBT) at Khuochiezie, Kohima Local ground on Thursday. 

The annual week-long tournament is organized by Suncity Kohima in association with the Nagaland Basketball Association.

Stallions, Amplified, Taurus and Team Orca also remained undefeated in their league matches. 

While St. Joseph College, TMB won two matches out of three, Elite Basketball Team and Jumpers managed to win three out of four matches to qualify for knock out stages. On the last day of the league matches, Stallions thrashed Trouncers 73-34 to secure top spot in Pool-A. St. Joseph College with back to back win secured the second spot by overcoming Road Runners 47-29.

From Pool-B, Ophidians lost to Amplified team 50-30.  As a result, it made way for TMB to secure their second spot in Pool B. 

In Pool C, Taurus won all the league matches to secure the top spot. Taurus won their last match 41-21 against XLR8. 

Meanwhile, Elite Basketball team beat Backyard Ballers 61-20 to progress. 

Kohima Royals registered their second win against Backyard Ballers 59-43 but with Elite winning the third match both the team were out of the tournament joining XLR8.

Team Orca registered their straight fourth victory over Art City Warrior 60-26 to seal the top spot in Pool-D.  Playing two matches each, Tepenjem beat Last Kings 38-33 and Jumpers also won over Last Kings 57-26.  In a must win for both team in the last league match of the day, Jumpers overcame Tepenjem 48-36 to enter quarterfinals. 

FRIDAY’S matches (QUARTERFINALS)  

1st match: Stallions vs Jumpers (1pm)

2nd match: Orca vs St. Joseph College

3rd match: Taurus vs TMB

4th match: Amplified vs Elite Basketball Team
