SASRD annual school week held

The 24th annual school week and campus sports meet of School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD) was held from October 8-13 under the theme “Education Redefined”. Thsuvisie Phoji, ADC, Medziphema graced the meet as the special guest. 

Addressing the students, Phoji said that the school week comprises not only physical activities but also covers the mental aspect. While stating that each participant should test the limits of their physical and mental aspects, the special guest reminded that it should be with discipline, sportsmanship and utmost coordination with teammates as it is the spirit of oneness that is true victory. He also appreciated the cultural diversity of the college and urged the students to cherish the moments spent in the campus.

Prof. T. Lanusosang, Pro-Vice Chancellor  in his welcome address mentioned that games and sports are a part and parcel of life. He stressed that participation is more important than winning and urged all the students to keep a balance between academics and extra-curricular activities as learning involve both mental and physical activities. 

To commemorate the year long Nagaland University Silver Jubilee celebrations, campus sports meet was incorporated with school week, wherein NU teaching and non-teaching staff competed against the students. The day kicked off with a football match for men between the student union office bearers against the NU staff which was won by the NU staff with an overwhelming score of 7-2. 

Ladies volley ball match was also won by the NU staff. Other events like sack race, spoon race, balloon fight, bamboo climbing, bamboo stick race, banana eating competition etc saw stiff competition between NU staff and students. 

W. Shangkok Konyak was named the best sports man, Werhu-ü Khutso was named the best sports woman, Vekhorülü Keyho won the cultural laureate title and Vijaya Lakshmi won the literary laureate title. 

Lannister House was declared as the winners of the 24th annual school week.

On the concluding day, there was an exhibition basketball match between NU staff and students. The match was won by the NU teaching and non teaching staff.  

The valedictory programme was graced by Dr. Watimongla Jamir, Vice-Principal, IETC, Medziphema as the guest of honour.
