In a freak accident, one person was killed and another injured on Wednesday wee hours when the car they were travelling was swept below the road by landslide near Kilomi and Xuivi villages under Satakha sub-division, Zunheboto district.
The mangled remains of the Maruti Alto along with the deceased was retrieved with the help of a poclain machine, assisted by people from the nearby villages and police.
The injured was rushed to a nearby Satakha Primary Health Centre (PHC) for emergency medical aid.
According to initial police reports, the incident took place when the father-son duo were returning from Dimapur, on the way back to their village. The driver managed to escape, however, the person seated in the front seat died due to injuries, police said.
It may be mentioned that the recent incessant rains have damaged several roads and properties.
