Phek district special court on February 18, 2026, convicted and sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for repeatedly sexually assaulting his minor niece, who was living with him as his adopted daughter, resulting in her pregnancy at the age of 14.
In a press release, Phek police media cell informed that the case originated from a written complaint received on February 12, 2025, from a resident of Chozuba town.
The complainant reported multiple instances of sexual assault on the minor girl, leading to her pregnancy while she was only 14 years old.
The accused was identified as one Pulekhoyi Tetseo. The victim, his niece, had been residing with him in the capacity of an adopted daughter.
A case was registered with the Women Police Station, Phek, under Sections 61(1) (2) (f) (h) (j) (m)/65 (1)/74/75 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), read with Sections 4, 6, 8, and 12 of the POCSO Act.
The case was subsequently endorsed for investigation.
Phek police conducted a meticulous probe, collecting and properly documenting all forensic and circumstantial evidence.
Following the conclusion of the trial, the Special Court found the accused guilty on the charges framed against him.
He was sentenced to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.
Meanwhile, Phek police reiterated its commitment to creating a safe environment for women, children, and all citizens of the district.
It stated that the conviction served as a strong warning that crimes against children would be met with the full force of the law.
The police commended the investigating officer (I.O.), the prosecution team, and the courageous witnesses whose efforts ensured that justice was delivered in the case.
