In a delayed report reaching here, one person was arrested by Zunheboto Police last Saturday for rape of two minors.
According to police, the accused identified as one Iheshe Yeptho (65), father of nine children and belonging to Aichi Saghemi village under Suruhuto sub-division was held for allegedly raping two minors aged 6 and 8 in the village.
OC Zunheboto P.S Nikheho Shohe told this Correspondent over phone that the accused has been forwarded to jail and booked under Section 4/8 of POCSO Act. Shohe said that the accused will be charge-sheeted and forwarded to the judiciary after the investigations are over.
Meanwhile, the Sumi Totimi Hoho (STH) unit of Aichi Saghemi Sunday held a rally in the village to protest against the rape of the minors. Womenfolk of the village carried placards that read “No bail for rapist,” “We condemn rape of minors,” “Maximum punishment for rapist,” “We want justice against rape,” “Do not support rapist,” “Rape of minor is a crime, punish the rapist” and “No mercy for rapist.”
Reacting to the incident, the Aichi Saghemi Village Council, while strongly condemning the act of Iheshe Yeptho, has decided to excommunicate the accused from the village for life. The council also resolved not to allow the mortal remains of the accused to be buried in the village upon his death. The council also appealed to the higher authorities not to grant any form of release by way of bail or other means but ensure that the accused be given “severest” punishment for his crime. The decision of the village council was wholeheartedly agreed upon by the STH, Youth Forum and the Student’s Union of Aichi Saghemi village.
