Close on the heels of Thursday’s intermittent exchange of fire at Pukhato village, rival cadres of the NSCN factions again exchanged fire Friday at a farm land (Nito farm, owned by retired chief engineer power, Hokhezhe) situated between Kuhuboto town and Vihokhu village in which one from the ‘GPRN/NSCN’ was killed.
Casualty, if any, on the side of the NSCN(I-M)was not known at the time of filing this report.
Firing stopped after the ‘GPRN/NSCN’ column left the area before the arrival of the police and security force.
According to Kuhuboto Ghakhu Public Organisation (KGPO) president, Kakiye Zhimomi, the clash occurred when a group of GPRN/NSCN activists, attacked the NSCN(I-M) group which had camped inside the farm around 3:30 p.mThe exchange of fire lasted for about half and hour.
The slain NSCN/GPRN member was identified as ss ‘sgt maj’ Vikheto Achumi,son of Zhekuto of Litsami village,Suruhuto.
After the firing ceased, police personnel of 11 IR, C coy along with ADC Niuland, SDPO Niuland, and KGPO president including DBs rushed to the site and recovered the body of the slain cadre and brought it to Kuhuboto town. According to Kakiye the GPRN/NSCN had asked them to take the body of their slain member to Nihokhu village to be buried at the ‘GPRN/NSCN’ cemetery.
KGPO president, appealed both the factions not to exchange fire in the civilian area and not to prevent villagers from entering the battle scene ,to ascertain whether there were any civilian casualties. He maintained the area where the clash occurred was inhabited by locals, numbering about ten houses.
SDPO Niuland, Khalo who had earlier met the NSCN (I-M) commander on the spot said that the NSCN (I-M) cadre wanted to remain in that area as one of their boys was having a fever. He said the faction hoped to vacate the village on Saturday.
SDPO Nuiland, Khalo said IR personnel had done a gallant task by moving forward even as the firing was going on thereby instilling terror struck public that there is some one to protect their lives.
