11 injured in road mishap

Barely three weeks after a Tata Sumo taxi rolled down the road near Tseminyu Town killing six persons, another mishap took place on Thursday evening few kilometres away from the previous spot.
On Thursday, 11 persons were injured when a Wokha-bound taxi (Tata Sumo) from Kohima rolled down some 300 to 400 feet below NH 61. According to Tseminyu sub-division officials, the driver of the taxi (NL-05T 0380) including two passengers, with minor injuries were discharged after medical aid at Tseminyu Community Health Centre. The remaining eight injured passengers were rushed to Kohima for treatment.
Though the cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained, sources said that the driver has been detained by police for further investigation.  Tseminyu sub-division officials, police and public helped in the rescue operation.
Meanwhile, Rengma Selo Zi (Rengma youth organization) has convened a consultative meeting on behalf of Rengma frontal organizations along with All Nagaland Taxi association Wokha and Tseminyu unit and Kyong frontal organizations on May 2 at Tseminyu town to discuss on road safety measures. The organization has asked all taxis not to ply till the time the meeting is over. It may be noted that the National Highway 61 crossing Tseminyu is narrow and in a deplorable condition. Earlier, on December 24, 2012, seven persons including a woman were killed when the Tata Sumo in which they were travelling fell into a deep gorge in this section of the national highway near Tseminyu sub-divisional headquarter.
