The Congress on Wednesday said the last 11 years of the Narendra Modi government have been a shining example of “failures” and “anti-people policies” as BJP’s politics focussed on creating divisions in society due to which people are feeling insecure.
Addressing a press conference here, Congress general secretary and former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel said during this period, the prime minister talked of people being identified by their clothes, about ‘shamshaan’ and ‘kabristaan’ and is not perturbed by the atrocities being committed on tribals and Dalits.
He alleged that the BJP leaders enjoy insulting and harassing people, yet no action is taken against anyone under this government.
“The 11 years of Narendra Modi is a shining monument of failures and anti-people policies. In the beginning he showed dreams to the people and by the time he completed 11 years, he reached the point of destroying ‘sindoor’.
“The BJP leaders are making a lot of noise about these 11 years, but if you see what you have got in 11 years, you will find that all the schemes of the BJP government have failed. Modi ji’s entire political journey has been of disintegration and division,” Baghel alleged.
He said the Uttar Pradesh government claimed that only 37 people died during the Kumbh stampede earlier this year, while a BBC report revealed that 82 people were killed.
After demonetisation, Baghel said, the government asserted that black money will be brought back, but after this decision many people died and many people had to face a lot of problems.
“PM Narendra Modi had said that demonetisation will end terrorism and Naxalism in the country, but everything is happening contrary to the claim. The situation was the same during the time of Covid. The government does not have any facility for treatment. Instead of making arrangements, the government made the whole country clap and beat plates to divert attention,” the former chief minister alleged.
Baghel also claimed that the lockdown was imposed without any thought and preparation during Covid and due to this, people got stranded here and there in the entire country. Those who got affected by Covid did not get treatment and in this way lakhs of people lost their lives, he claimed.
“Today, after Covid, the number of deaths has suddenly increased in the country. People are losing their lives, but no study is being done on this in the country,” he said. Baghel claimed that every time he said something against the government, he has suffered raids at his residences or those of his friends and associates, who, he alleged, are being “tortured”.
He further claimed that there have been a maximum number of raids by probe agencies against him in Chhattisgarh and now he as become used to them.
He alleged that foreign policy of the Modi government has “failed” and from the time when the entire world used to listen to India’s voice seriously, now the situation has changed.
Referring to Operation Sindoor, he said that despite Prime Minister Modi visiting so many countries, no country stood in support of India. He said that during the conflict between India and Pakistan, US President Donald Trump claimed to have brought about a “ceasefire” due to which the country is feeling insulted.
He asked what is the compulsion of Modi, who spoke fiercely during the elections, to remain silent at such a time.
Baghel described the 11 years of the Modi government as that when politics of deception, fraud and lies was prevalent and where the rich became richer and the poor turned poorer.
Alleging that all the promises made were based on “deceit and lies”, he said the BJP government had promised to provide two crore jobs every year, but the vacant government posts are not being filled.
He also said that institutions like ED, Income Tax Department, CBI and even the Election Commission are under pressure from the BJP government, which has weakened democracy.
The Congress leader listed the “failure” of various government schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Ayushman Bharat Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana and Nal-Jal Yojana. He also described the condition of ST-SC, OBC schemes as pathetic.
He further said that the government talks about women reservation, but there is no answer on when it will be implemented and the same is the case with caste census.
Highlighting the plight of farmers, he said that Narendra Modi had talked about doubling farmers’ income by implementing Swaminathan Committee recommendations, he claimed farmers are forced to sell their crops at throw-away prices.
