A 12-hour total shutdown on Monday from 6am to 6pm under Wokha district called by three Wokha village bodies passed off peacefully without any untoward incident.
The Wokha village bodies– Wokha Village Youth Organization (WVYO), Wokha Village Students’ Union (WVSU) and Wokha Village Eloe Ekhung (WVEE)– imposed the bandh after they failed to receive response to their 30-day ultimatum on PWD (NH) to construct the single intermediate lane (NH-61/ NH-2) to two-lane road from Miropen Gate to Hammock Resort under Wokha district.
WVYO through its media cell stated that a conclave, which was held at police point Wokha town on November 1, 2021, resolved to continue further course of action “if necessary steps and action remain unattended.”
WVYO, however, stated that due to the ensuing Tokhu festival, the next course of action would be initiated after the festival. The meeting also resolved to form a core committee which would be supported by the apex tribal organization.
In its next course of action, the meeting resolved to close down the existing DC office and PWD (NH) Wokha and impose indefinite bandh on all government registered vehicles plying within NE-61/02 Wokha.
At the meeting, apex organisations including Lotha Hoho, Lotha Students’ Union, Lotha Youth Hoho, Wokha Circle Students’ Union, Wokha District Chambers of Commerce and Industries, WHESYWF, Longsa Students’ Union and general public deliberated on various agendas.
