The 12th edition of the Phom Monyiu Open Volleyball Tournament concluded at the Public Ground, Longleng, after four days of spirited competition from April 7 to 10. Organized by the Longleng Town Students’ Union in collaboration with the Longleng District Volleyball Association (LDVA), the tournament saw participation from 12 teams.
The tournament concluded with Anaki Phom Volleyball Association clinching the Championship title, while United Rising Sporting Club (URSC), Yimchong, finished as runner-up.
Individual awards were presented to outstanding performers: Player of the Tournament by Bauaok (Anaki Phom Volleyball Association); Best Spiker by Wonglom (Anaki Phom Volleyball Association); Best Setter by Abu Okla C. Phom (URSC Yimchong); Best Libero by P. Shingjei (Yongphang Students’ Union); Best Discipline Team by Hukphang Students’ Union (B).
The inaugural programme was graced by P.O, DRDA Longleng, P. Angam Longho, who emphasized the importance of sports as a career option and highlighted the values of discipline, recognition and sportsmanship. He encouraged the youth to nurture their talents, learn from failures and foster unity through healthy competition.
Match patrons for the second and third days included president PSC, Shame Phom and president LDVA, L.T. Hentok, whose presence added encouragement to the players. The valedictory function was attended by Assistant Commandant, Nagaland Village Guard, L.K. Heno Khiamniungan, who lauded the organizers for creating a meaningful platform for the youth. He stressed the importance of unity and sportsmanship among both players and spectators, urging everyone to strive for excellence and positivity.
