DIMAPUR, SEP 20 (NPN): More than half of the targeted schools in Nagaland are yet to complete the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2026-27 assessment, with the September 30 deadline approaching.
According to the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating progress report as of September 19, only 1,325 of the 2,700 targeted schools in the State had completed the assessment, putting the completion rate at 49.07%.
A total of 1,728 schools had initiated the process, while 1,375 schools remained pending.
SHVR is a Ministry of Education initiative to assess and improve cleanliness, hygiene and environmental practices in schools.
Under the initiative, schools assess themselves on areas including water, toilets, handwashing with soap, operation and maintenance, behaviour change and capacity building, and Mission LiFE activities.
The assessment is intended to help schools identify gaps in hygiene and sanitation facilities and practices and prepare plans for improvement. Schools are then given ratings based on their performance.
The pending figure means 1,375 targeted schools are yet to complete the assessment, and therefore have not entered the subsequent assessment and recognition stages of the SHVR process.
Non-completion also means the State has less complete data from its schools on areas such as sanitation, water, hand hygiene and environmental practices.
With only 10 days remaining until the September 30 deadline, Nagaland would need to complete the assessment in the remaining 1,375 schools to achieve full participation among the 2,700 schools listed in the progress report.
The programme is applicable to both government and private schools in rural and urban areas.
