The 13th All Sumi Chess Championship 2026 commenced today at Niathu Resort, Chumoukedima, with Iloka K. Shohe, President of the All Sumi Games and Sports, gracing the occasion as the special guest.
In his address, Shohe lauded the Sumi Chess Association Nagaland (SCAN) for its relentless efforts in promoting chess across the state. He noted that the progress of the game among the Sumi community, despite infrastructural challenges, was commendable and beneficial to the wider Naga society. Calling chess a “witty game that involves peace of mind,” he emphasized the need for a proper multidisciplinary sports complex at Zunheboto and Niuland. During the event, SCAN also submitted a memorandum to the Sumi Games and Sports Association. The program began with an invocation prayer by Hokali Chishi Robert, Women Pastor Mishikito, followed by a presidential address from Itovi Awomi. A special number was presented by Millentoli Achumi, while Toika Muru delivered the vote of thanks. The benediction was offered by Y. Vizheto Shohe, and the event was chaired by Bovito Yeptho, General Secretary.
Altogether, 56 players are competing in the championship, which will conclude on March 21, 2026.
