14th National Voters’ Day: ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For Sure’

Nagaland joined the rest of the country on Thursday in celebrating “National Voters’ Day”, the foundation day of the Election Commission of India (ECI), under 2024 common theme, “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote For Sure”.


To mark the day, different programmes were organised to create voter awareness and encourage participation in the electoral process. Newly eligible youths were also sensitised on voter registration and presented with their Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPIC).


Dimapur: State Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), hosted the Namo Navmatdata Sammelan at IMC Hall in Dimapur on Thursday. The event, dedicated to first-time voters of BJP 1 Dimapur 1 Mandal, was held commemorating the “National Voters Day”, symbolizing a significant step towards active youth participation in the democratic process.


Addressing a gathering of enthusiastic first-time voters, BJP Karyakartas, Advisor, Tribal Affairs and Elections, Tovihoto Ayemi, emphasized on the importance of the occasion, marking the commencement of a transformative journey for the youth, urging them to become ambassadors of a developed and advanced nation. He congratulated the first-time voters, and underscored the power inherent in their votes. He informed that the act of voting was not merely marking a ballot paper but a profound tool that has the ability to shape the destiny of the nation.


He also highlighted key thoughts for the young voters, emphasizing responsibility, diversity of opinions, active participation, the continuity of change, and unity in diversity.
“As you step into the world of voting, I want you to recognize the significance of your role. In a democracy, every single vote matters. Your vote is your voice, and it can bring about change. It’s the foundation of our democratic system, where the power lies in the hands of the people”, he stated.


Meanwhile, short speeches were also delivered by National Executive Member, BJYM, Animesh Biswas, and president, Minority Morcha BJP Nagaland, Ankit Jain.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by general secretary, Yuva Morcha, 1 Dimapur 1 Mandal, Chunthai Kamei, invocation offered by president, Mahila Morcha, 1 Dimapur 1 Mandal, Alila Aier, and welcome address by president, Yuva Morcha, 1 Dimapur 1 Mandal, Titus Kath, while vote of thanks was offered by president, Yuva Morcha, BJP Dimapur, Nzanbemo Lotha. The programme also witnessed live screening of BJP National President, JP Nadda and Prime Minster, Narendra Modi. (Staff Reporter)


Wokha: Wokha celebrated the “14th National Voters’ Day’ at the DC Conference Hall, Wokha. ADC & Electoral Registration Officer, Wokha K. Furhesie Nyuwi, emphasized on the significance of the day and encouraged electoral participation, recognizing young voters, and promoting voter enrollment.


While congratulating the first-time voters, Nyuwi also congratulated the Best Booth Level Officers (BLO) for their dedicated service in registering eligible voters across Wokha district.


BLO 38 AC Orenbomo Tungoe, in a brief address, echoed the theme’s essence, emphasizing the responsibility and privilege inherent in the right to vote. He urged attendees to renew their commitment to democratic values, ensuring the enduring brilliance of liberty and justice.

The program witnessed the participation of students from various schools and colleges, with a display of the Chief Election Commissioner’s message. Voters’ Pledge was administered by SDO (C) Wokha Nuhuta Tunyi and first-time voters were honoured during the event, accompanied by the presentation of certificates and cash prizes to the Best BLO awardees. The awards were presented by EAC Wokha and AERO, 37- Tyui AC Luchui Fithu.


The best BLO performance were awarded to each constituency. The recipients were Augustine Odyuo from 37 Tyui AC BLO of 31 Polling Station Riphyim 03, Orenbomo Tungoe from 38 Wokha AC BLO of 13 Polling Station of Wokha Town 6, Likao Lotha from 39 Sanis AC BLO of Polling Station 23 Chudi, Rabenthung Kithan 40 Bhandari AC BLO of Polling Station 6 Tssori Old. AEO, Wokha and also the chairperson of the programme Chisho K Swu, gave a brief demonstration on the EVM the first-time voters.
