DIMAPUR, SEP 30 (NPN): The 173 Battalion of the CRPF, Dimapur, will organise a Half Marathon on October 28, under the banner of “SPANDAN – Sports for Peace and Development Across Nation” in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI).
The event will be held at the State Agri Expo, 4th Mile, Chumoukedima, which will serve as both the starting and finishing point of the marathon. The race is scheduled to be flagged off at 5:30 a.m. The initiative aims to promote fitness, sportsmanship, peace, unity and community participation through sports, while providing an opportunity for people, especially the youth, to engage in a healthy and positive sporting activity.
The marathon will feature two categories: 21 km for men and 5 km for women. Participation is open to all men and women aged 18 years and above. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 10 finishers in each category. Winners will receive Rs. 20,000 for first place, Rs. 15,000 for second place, and Rs. 10,000 for third place. The fourth and fifth-place finishers will receive Rs. 5,000 each, while the sixth and seventh-place finishers will be awarded Rs. 3,000 each. The eighth-place finisher will receive Rs. 2,000, and the ninth and tenth-place finishers will receive Rs. 1,000 each. Carrying the message “Run for Peace, Run for a Better Future,” the marathon seeks to highlight the role of sports in fostering unity among communities and inspiring the younger generation towards a healthy, disciplined, and constructive lifestyle.
The 173 Battalion CRPF has invited participation from across Nagaland, particularly from college students, youth clubs, sportspersons, fitness enthusiasts and members of the general public, to make the event a landmark sporting occasion in the state. Free T-shirts and refreshments will be provided to all registered participants.
