The 19th Dzülekemia Day was observed at Dzüleke, Kohima district on January 25. At the event, Akunu S. Meyase, secretary, Personnel and Administrative Reforms, and Economics and Statistics, called for promotion of sustainable tourism.
She acknowledged the state’s, growing prosperity through tourism, and stressed the need for a shift towards sustainable tourism. Meyase also outlined three key factors necessary for achieving sustainable tourism: protecting and maintaining the environment including forests, water, and air; enhancing the local community’s economy; and preserving cultural authenticity.
She urged the people not to compromise their traditions, including dress and food, simply to accommodate visitors. She further emphasized the need for improving infrastructure, such as roads, schools, sanitation, and healthcare facilities, to support tourism’s growth.
Around 150 people, including villagers and residents from outside the area, attended the event, which was marked by folk songs and community feast.
