The Suthozumi Chess Association, based in Phek district, is set to host its inaugural Nagaland Online Open Chess Tournament on August 15, at 1:30 PM. Organized under the aegis of the Nagaland Chess Association, the event aims to promote the game of chess across the state and provide a competitive platform for chess enthusiasts of all ages.
The tournament will be hosted on the Lichess server and will follow a Swiss League format with 13 rounds and a Blitz time control of 3 minutes per player. A total prize pool of Rs. 20,800 will be awarded across various categories, including substantial prizes for the top 20 players in the Open category, as well as for the top three players in both the Under-17 and Under-11 categories.
In addition, special prizes will be awarded to the best female and best veteran players, recognizing the diverse talent within the chess community. The tournament is exclusively open to residents of Nagaland, fostering local engagement and participation.
The registration fees are set at Rs. 200 for the open category, and Rs. 100 for players in the Under-17, Under-11, female, and veteran categories. The deadline for registration is August 14, by 8:00 PM. Participants can register online or seek further information by contacting 7005903450.
