1st open Konyak Aoleang badminton tourney ends

The first open badminton tournament of Konyak Aoleang Festival jointly organized by Mon District Badminton Association and Officers’ Club Mon that began on April 1 concluded on Monday at Badminton Stadium Mon. The closing function was graced by Y. Mankhao Konyak, MLA 46 AC Mon Town as the special guest.
In the Under 15 girl’s category, Angel emerged as the winner while Anon, was the runner-up. In Under 15 Boys, winner – Nokpon, runner-up – Rehan. In mixed double, winner – Ponlih and Shemon, runners-up – Yaom and Rokozo. Men’s double, winner – Abo and Yatsak, runners-up – Shemon and Rokozo and in veteran, winner – Winsha and Homanng, runners-up – Y. Pongba and S. Imtitemjen Ao.
Speaking at the programme, the special expressed his gratitude to the organizing club for their initiative. He also encouraged the players that winning and losing are part of games and reminded that participating is important and urged them to perform well and try to go further. Highlighting some government initiative for sports and games in Nagaland, he urged them that it’s all depends on the performance of the players. “To have a progressive society, it needs progressive mind and to have progressive mind, it needs progressive physical and to have progressive physical, one needs sports and exercise”, he added. He further said that there is no short cut and one achieves goal only through hard work.
Manpon, MLA encouraged the players that sport and games is not just a part of life, but it keeps ones fit, which is a moment to motivate and expose for further carrier.
President Konyak Union, Tingtok while lauding the organiser for the event, exhorted the players and organizers to play with sport discipline. He was encouraged to see the officers enjoy playing badminton with public and making friends. He also appealed to continue to cooperate with the NGOs, and citizens of Mon for peace and development.
Superintendent of Police Mon, Uniel Kichu delivering his welcome speech informed that there were 70 participants with the youngest was 8-year-old and the oldest was 60 years. The programme was chaired by Yaom and vote of thanks was delivered by VP MDBA, Nyamphong.
