The first quarterly meeting of Dimapur District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) was held on Saturday, at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur.
According to a DIPR report, deputy commissioner Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel informed the departments to submit the filled in format for India Disaster Resource (IDR) early so that could be updated in the system. He also advised, specially the PWD, Power, KMC and other line departments, to strengthen their disaster management plans as preparation for the monsoon. He also asked the medical department to take necessary preventive measures for controlling the mosquito population.
Sushil informed the meeting that the Nagaland Emergency Preparedness exercise will be conducted on April 26 and requested all the departments to be prepared for the same.
ADC Dimapur, Sara Jamir, reminded all the departments to be prepared for the onset of the monsoon season. She advised the DMC to clean up drains and also to ensure that sufficient provisions were kept for road repairs within colonies and give them construction permits. She observed that in some colonies it was difficult even for fire engines to pass through during disasters.
According to DIPR, Sara further requested all the departments to update their disaster management plan “and also to keep updating the available machineries.” The ADC, while pointing out that many cases of recent disasters in Dimapur were due to short circuits, advised the power department to create awareness on the proper usage of power and electrical safety.
District disaster management officer Dimapur, Rendemo, informed the meeting that TOTs would train village level volunteers as Community First Responders from next month in all the 6 sub divisions under Dimapur district. On updating of District Disaster Management Plan, Rendemo said that the plan would be prepared, making reference to the departmental disaster management plan, and he therefore requested all the departments to take this into consideration. The meeting was attended by all DDMA members including police and para military force.
