Dimapur Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the assault of a street vendor and the deliberate damage caused to his food cart at Burma Camp traffic point on October 18.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, a complaint was received alleging that a group of individuals assaulted the vendor and rammed a four-wheeler (Mahindra Thar) into his food cart. Acting on the complaint, police apprehended four suspects the same day. Following investigation, two of them were formally arrested after their involvement was confirmed. Police said the altercation stemmed from a trivial dispute at the food stall. The vehicle used in the offence has been seized, and a case has been registered at Dimapur East Police Station and further investigation is underway.
WSYF condemns: Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has strongly condemned the incident, where unidentified individuals reportedly assaulted a vendor and vandalised his food cart over a dispute concerning the quantity of meat served.
In a condemnation note, the WSYF media cell, citing reports, stated that the assailants—allegedly travelling in a black Mahindra Thar—physically attacked the vendor, rammed the vehicle into the cart multiple times, and even threatened to set it ablaze.
Describing the act as senseless and deeply disturbing, WSYF said such violence reflects a grave disregard for the dignity and livelihood of hardworking citizens. “No grievance, however small or big, justifies the destruction of another person’s property or means of survival,” it stated.
The youth organisation termed the incident a sign of growing lawlessness and moral decay, and urged law enforcement authorities to take swift and decisive action. It further asserted that the culture of fear, arrogance, and impunity fueling such hooliganism has no place in a civilised society.
WSYF appealed to the youth to be torchbearers of discipline and respect, and to stand united against acts of cowardice and anti-social behaviour. “This incident should serve as a reminder that such intimidation will not be tolerated,” it added.
