Two persons from the NSCN(I-M) were arrested by Dimapur Police Saturday in connection with the kidnap of GB of New Market Dimapur identified as Abdul Kayum Talukdar. According to DCP Crime & PRO Dimapur police, a Maruti Alto Car without registration number was intercepted by Sovima police station duty party while conducting Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) at Singrijan/Selouphe junction on September 29 at 8.50 p.m.
On checking the Alto, police found four occupants inside and on enquiry, it was found that three of the four admitted they belonged to NSCN( I-M) while the fourth was the kidnap victim (Talukdar).
During the process of rescue, police rescued Abdul Kayum Talukdar. Of the three NSCN (I-M) activists, one escaped under cover of darkness and identified as one ‘capt’ Ahor Tangkhul.
On spot interrogation, PRO said Abdul Kayum Talukdar revealed that he was forcibly kidnapped from the area near Hotel Theja Fort, Burma Camp, Dimapur and he was being transported in that car.
Subsequently, PRO said the victim was rescued and handed over to the family members in the presence of the New Market Business Owners Association.
PRO said two other occupants identified as “capt.” Masalepzuk (40) of Kantsung village under Tuli, Mokokchung district, presently residing at Burma Camp, Rongmai Colony and “lieut.” Isacar Swu (39) of Khughuto village under Zunheboto district and presently residing at 4th Mile near Agri Expo area were arrested and a case registered under relevant sections of law at East Police Station, Dimapur.
DDGBA, GB New Market Ward-19 flay kidnapping
Dimapur District GB Association (DDGBA) has strongly condemned the abduction of Kayum Talukdar, GB of New Market Dimapur. In a statement, DDGBA stated that “illegal activities of kidnapping and threatening people” had no place in the society.
In this regard, DDGBA appealed to the law enforcing agencies to take “immediate appropriate action” against the miscreants. DDGBA also acknowledged the swift action of police in rescuing the GB.
Meanwhile, GB New Market Ward-19, Khekishe Aye, also condemned the “criminal act” of kidnapping GB Kayum Talukdar on September 29. GB described as “very atrocious” the kidnapping of one of their GBs.
Aye stated that such illegal activities that create “fear psychosis” was “unacceptable and unbearable” in the society. Expressing concern over kidnapping innocent people/leaders, GB said that such act of crime should be condemned by one and all. GB also lauded the swift action of the police in arresting two of the kidnappers and rescuing the victim.
GB New Market urged the law enforcing agencies to award benefitting punishment to the culprit and also arrest the other accused who was involved in the crime at the earliest.
