In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, security forces arrested two alleged smugglers from Assam with narcotics worth around Rs. 12.5 crore in Manipur’s Jiribam district bordering Assam. The accused were identified as Rajib Hussain Mazumder of Ranighat and Sahar Alom Mazumder of Dubang, both from Cachar district.
According to officials, a total of 50,000 WY tablets weighing 5.184 kg (including sachets and polythene bags) were recovered from their possession. The consignment was being transported in a Toyota Fortuner when the duo was intercepted.
A joint team comprising Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and CRPF carried out the operation at Leingangpokpi village along NH-37 under Jiribam police station on December 6, acting on specific intelligence input.
The Assam Rifles, in a social media post, confirmed the seizure and stated that the narcotics were valued at approximately Rs. 12.5 crore. The arrested individuals, along with the seized items, were handed over to Jiribam police for further legal action.
The post further underlined Assam Rifles’ commitment to combating NDPS activities and safeguarding the region from the menace of narcotics.
