In a tragic incident, two youth drowned in Doyang dam reservoir on Monday afternoon. According to reports, the victims have been identified as Elanthung Ngullie (20) son of late Khumjamo Ngullie, and Thungchio Patton (24) son of Lobemo Patton. It was learnt that the incident occurred when three friends in a boat were heading to work with their supplies between 12 noon and 1 p.m.
A sudden strong wind caused the boat to flip, throwing all five passengers on the boat into the water. While three persons managed to swim to safety, two of them drowned as they could not swim.
Company Commander Home Guards & Civil Defence Wokha, Echung Konyak said that despite efforts from State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the bodies could not be recovered. He said that the search will resume on Tuesday with assistance from National Disaster Response Force team from Kohima.
