In a tragic incident, two nine-year-old boys drowned in Dhansiri River at Naharbari in East Dimapur on Monday evening, while a third boy was rescued by local residents. According to police sources, the incident occurred at around 5 pm Monday when the boys, along with a few friends, went to the riverbank after returning from tuition classes.
While playing, the children entered the river, during which two of them were swept away. Local volunteers from Naharbari, assisted by personnel from the State Disaster Response Force, launched a search operation soon after the incident. The bodies of the two minors were recovered on Tuesday morning following an overnight search.
The deceased were identified as Augustin Kachari and Samuel, both Class 3 students of St. Teresa School and residents of Master Colony. The third boy, identified as Solomon (12), a Class 4 student, was rescued by nearby residents. Following the incident, Naharbari GB Joseph Mero urged parents and guardians to prevent children from venturing near riverbanks.
