Two mild earthquakes measuring 3.1 and 4.9 on the Richter scale shook the North Eastern region of the country on Sunday morning at 10.14 am and 10.57 respectively.
Sources from the Indian Meteorological Department informed that the first quake with its epicentre in Kokrajhar, Assam was felt at 10.14 on Sunday morning and was swiftly followed by another 4.9 magnitude quake with its epicentre in the Myanmar-India border region at 10.57 am. It may be mentioned that a 5.0 magnitude quake shook the region on Saturday with its epicentre of the quake at Myanmar-India border region at 12.31 p.m.
Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur– are considered by seismologists as lying in the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world.
