NTC: Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has expressed shock at the cold-blooded murder of police inspector Neiphretuo Metsie-o by one Yurreingam R Shimray from Kharasom Lazo village in Manipur along with his lady accomplice from Ukhrul.
Condemning the “heinous crime”, NTC also expressed its grief and agony for the widow and her under-aged children.
In a statement issued by its media cell, the council claimed that there was evidently no relationship between the victim and murderers, adding that the magnanimity of the victim to carry the murderers was just a coincidence. NTC said that the murderers’ intention to seize the victim’s vehicle was evident from the fact that the moment third passenger was dropped at Zuketsa town, the victim was shot dead a kilometre away from Pfutsero.
According to NTC, such “daring, mindless and senseless” murder of a fellow Naga due to sheer greed for money (as the victim’s vehicle was reportedly disposed off to a buyer without any fear) and value for human life was “definitely alien” to Naga culture.
NTC appreciated the public of Pfutsero range for selflessly involving themselves with the police in the searching the victim’s body, as without their cooperation the police’s task would have been tough. It also appreciated the effective coordination among the intelligence agencies and police forces of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland that led to the arrest of the murderers.
Terming that such coordination among the neighbouring States was indispensable to handle such inter-State crimes, NTC also congratulated all those who efficiently pursued the case and brought the culprits to book.
NTC opined that the murderers should now be handed over to Nagaland Police urgently for the purpose of “expeditious trial and befitting penalisation”.
Expressing satisfaction at the latest coordination among the law-enforcing agencies of the three States, and which it termed as encouraging, NTC also impressed upon the authorities concerned in all the North-eastern States to strengthen the coordination so as to eradicate such crimes in the region in future.
